Date: 16 February 2016
Closing date for entries is midday on 4th April and the Excellence Awards Presentation will take place on 23rd June on the 42nd floor of The Leadenhall Building, aka The Cheesegrater, an iconic feature of the central London skyline.
Open to architects and fabricators across both the commercial and trade residential sectors, the Schueco Excellence Awards – now in their third year – have become firmly established as a major annual event celebrating the very best in UK building design.
Commenting on their importance, Joe Morris, a director of Duggan Morris Architects, the first winners of the Special Merit Award for Overall Excellence in 2014, says: ‘Winning the Schueco Excellence Award continues to strengthen our collaborations with specialist contractors and influence our design process.’
Nine separate categories – commercial building; cultural building; education building; health building; refurbishment project; residential development; individual house; steel award; specialist contractor – ensure the widest possible coverage of the UK building industry.
The judges will be looking for submissions that demonstrate how creativity, innovation and build-team collaboration have delivered exceptional product solutions that help to realise original design concepts. The only stipulation for entry is that the building submitted should include at least one Schueco system.
The panel of judges for 2016 consists of Hugh Pearman, editor, RIBA Journal (chairman); Paul Monaghan, director, Alford Hall Monaghan Morris; Louise Cotter, director, Carr Cotter & Naessens Architects; Jose Silva Hernandez-Gil, associate, Duggan Morris Architects; Chris Macey, Group MD, Wintech Group and Steve Mudie, director, alinea consulting.
As a point of interest, Louise Cotter led the architectural team that designed the Dun Laoghaire Lexican Library and Cultural Centre, Dublin, which won the Award for Overall Excellence in the 2015 competition.
Following the presentation of the Awards in June, a pdf of the RIBA Awards supplement containing all the short-listed entries will be available to download from the Schueco UK website. This will give finalists the opportunity to showcase their expertise directly to some of the most influential people in the industry.
Details of the entry criteria for the Schueco Excellence Awards for Design and Innovation can be downloaded from the RIBA website (https://www.ribaj.com/buildings/celebrate-collaboration) together with an easy-to-fill-out entry form.
