The company's growth is fueled by an expanding relationship with Guardian Industries, a leader in the global glass industry. As a result, Schneider seeks candidates within a 75-mile radius of DeWitt, Iowa, including the Quad Cities, Clinton, Dubuque and Maquoketa.
Schneider National plans to hire 100 over-the-road drivers and owner-operators over the next 30 days. Most newly-hired employees will work for Schneider National's Specialized division hauling flat glass from Guardian's DeWitt manufacturing plant. Additional drivers will be hired to serve numerous other accounts in the region, including Family Dollar in Maquoketa. Schneider drivers will deliver to customers primarily in the Midwestern United States.
"The current shortage of drivers across the transportation industry, combined with the increase in Guardian and other customers' overall outbound shipments, has prompted the need for a substantial increase in owner-operators and Specialized drivers in the region," said Rob Reich, vice president of enterprise recruiting at Schneider National.
"By hosting a career fair for some of our larger customers, like Guardian, Schneider is able to support this leading glass manufacturer with the Specialized transportation solutions it needs to provide flexible and consistently excellent service to its customers," said Barbara Vitchus, vice president and general manager of Schneider Specialized Carriers Inc.
Schneider National offers a comprehensive, company-paid training program that is recognized as one of the best in the industry for its commitment to operating safety and performance. Inexperienced drivers are encouraged to apply for the new positions and will earn an average of $30,500-$39,500 in their first year. Experienced drivers will earn an average of $43,500-$54,000 per year. Owner-operators leasing with Schneider National will average $135,000-$145,000 annually.
"Guardian Industries selected Schneider Specialized to service our DeWitt facility before day one," said Pat Tuttle, Guardian's DeWitt plant manager. "Over the past nine years, our relationship has garnered significant achievements, namely a very high driver retention rate. I attribute our accomplishments to the superior caliber of drivers who work for Schneider, along with the appreciation Guardian shows for a job well done. As Guardian continues to expand, it is reassuring to see our transportation provider grow with us."
