Saint-Gobain Sekurit, a China-based manufacturer of automotive glass, has announced that it is constructing its second Chinese automotive glass plant in the Shandong province of Qingdao.

The new facility is located near to the group's flat glass production site. The company has said that it will invest approximately €50 million ($72 million) in the new facility, which will be carried out in three phases between now and 2014. The first manufacturing line will come on stream by mid-2012.

The company expects the plant to increase its production capacity along with growth in market, and is expected to supply, from 2014, all glass car-sets to equip 1.5 million vehicles per annum, thus doubling Saint-Gobain Sekurit's current production capacity in this country.

With the second automotive glass plant, Saint-Gobain Sekurit will reinforce its positions to competitively serve the carmakers present in China. Currently, the company has an automotive glass processing plant and a modular products facility in Shanghai, 11 pre-mounting sites across the country and two floats in Qingdao and Nanjing.
