A young Brazilian who once made a living collecting paper and cardboard from rubbish tips, has been named YBI Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

Juan Ramon Nunez will travel to London to receive his award at a gala dinner attended by Prince Charles on November 16. YBI - Youth Business International - supports a number of initiatives worldwide which are aimed at encouraging young companies, including Brazil's Fundacion Impulsar, which has funded Juan Ramon's fledgling business. The Fundacion has helped the start-up of 500 small businesses since its launch in 1999 and VASA has been one of its sponsors since the start.

Juan Ramon first began his enterprise - The Light of Sound - in November 2007, using homemade equipment to provide sound and lighting for parties, celebrations and other similar events. Now, with financial help and mentoring from Fundacion Impulsar, turnover is already expected to reach $45,000 in 2009/10 and double the following year.

From the beginning, Juan Ramon has used his business to raise funds to provide medical care for underprivileged children.
