With climate change a hot topic at the recent political party conferences, Pilkington has released figures showing an amazing 2.5 million tonnes of CO2 will be saved in the UK over the next 20 years thanks to installations of energy efficient glazing Pilkington energiKare™.

Calculations show that installing Pilkington energiKare™ saves householders, on average, more than 20 tonnes of CO2 per window across its lifetime, compared to basic single glazing. With more than a million windows incorporating Pilkington energiKare™ installed since the product’s launch in 2007, these results show Pilkington energiKare™ is an effective way to improve the energy-efficiency of a home. What’s more, Pilkington has estimated that if every household in the UK replaced their glazing with Pilkington energiKare™, over 20 years the nation would save a massive 234 million tonnes of CO2 and £149billion off their fuel bills.

Andy McDowell, of Pilkington explained: “These figures show the real difference energy efficient glazing can have on CO2 emissions in the UK. With more than 700 companies currently supplying Pilkington energiKare™ these savings are a perfect selling point for window companies. We urge those who supply Pilkington energiKare™ and the Pilkington energiKare™ family to householders to promote these results, and help householders not only improve the environment but save money off their fuel bills too.”

Pilkington energiKare™ combines two leading Pilkington products, Pilkington Optiwhite™ and Pilkington K Glass™, and can reduce net heat loss from windows by up to 90 per cent, when upgrading from single glazing. At the same time, Pilkington energiKare™ allows in more heat and light from the sun, contributing positively to a home’s energy requirements.

The Pilkington energiKare™ family is a range of energy efficient glazing for all property types. As well as Pilkington energiKare™ Classic which offers a WER rating of C, the range also comprises of Pilkington energiKare™ Triple which can exceed a WER rating of A, Pilkington energiKare™ Plus which can achieve a WER rating of A or B and Pilkington energiKare™ Legacy which is ideal for improving the energy efficiency of older buildings without changing the look of them. From new homes to traditional buildings, the Pilkington energiKare™ family meets and exceeds the proposed changes to Building Regulations for England, Scotland and Wales in 2010 and beyond.
