Pilkington chief executive Paulo Scaroni is set to accept the offer of a job as head of Italian electricity giant ENEL , sources in Rome and London said on Monday.
Scaroni, who had led Pilkington through a major restructuring since 1997 and is credited with rescuing the glassmaker, was named among a set of new executives at Enel by the Italian government earlier on Monday.Although Scaroni has not officially been named as chief executive, he is expected to accept the post shortly.Pilkington declined to comment.Scaroni's departure comes at a difficult time for Pilkington.The company said in April it faced some tough industry conditions, with autoglass and building industry orders under pressure.
