Paolo Scaroni has resigned from the Board of Pilkington plc and relinquished the post of non-executive deputy chairman of the Group.

Following his appointment to the board of Alliance UniChem Plc on 10 December 2002, Paolo informed the board that due to increased time commitments he would no longer be able to fulfil the role of non-executive deputy chairman of Pilkington.Sir Nigel Rudd, chairman of Pilkington, said : "Paolo has made a significant contribution to the turn-around of Pilkington over the last six years. Pilkington today is a stronger, leaner, fitter business better able to compete as a world leader in glass. Stuart Chambers and the executive management team are building on this competitive strength and the Group is well placed to deliver value despite uncertain market conditions."
