The students' hard work and academic achievement were rewarded with scholarship dollars through the Guardian Industries Educational Foundation (GIEF).
Since 1986, when the foundation began awarding scholarships, more than 840 students have received approximately $7 million in funds. Guardian announced 77 new scholarships to employee children for the 2007-2008 academic year.
Locally, Melanie Miville, daughter of Mike Miville, has received a scholarship through GIEF. Miville ecently graduated from Mount View High School in Thorndike and will attend the University of Southern Maine in the fall to pursue a degree in chemistry.
Guardian Industries established the Educational Foundation to support the pursuit of higher education or vocational training by the children of Guardian employees. Students may earn as much as $4,000 annually and $16,000 in total.
