Let There Be Light – With A Unique Combination of Pilkington Activ™ and Lumen Roof Light Expertise

Date: 25 July 2012

Light is becoming an increasingly important design element, and maximizing the use of natural sunshine within homes to create light, airy spaces is becoming increasingly popular.

Natural light makes spaces appear larger, lessens the need for electricity, and some studies have shown that a well lit environment makes people feel happier and healthier.Roof lights are a great way to update a dark and gloomy space, and transform it into a light area which feels large, bright and welcoming. The purpose of a roof light is to allow natural light to flood into areas with small or no windows, or spaces that don’t get much sunlight. But their functional use doesn’t mean they have to just be that.Lumen roof lights are more than just functional; each bespoke Lumen skylight draws on more than 100 years of metalwork and engineering expertise to create a product that looks beautiful and performs perfectly, in a range of settings.

Manufactured in Great Britain, the units can be fitted with Pilkington Activ™ Self Cleaning glass to create an elegant, window that will add light and style to any room, and can be combined with an inner pane of Pilkington Optitherm™ S3 – the market leading super neutral low-emissivity glass which will offer a high thermal performance.

Pilkington Activ™ unique dual action coating uses rainwater to help keep the glass free from organic dirt, giving you not only the practical benefit of less cleaning, but also clearer, better-looking windows. The secret of Pilkington Activ™ lies in its unique coating, which works in two stages.

Firstly, the coating reacts with ultra-violet (UV) rays from natural daylight to break down and disintegrate organic dirt. The second part of the process happens when water hits the glass. Rain water runs down the glass to wash the loosened dirt away. Compared with conventional glass, the water dries very quickly, reducing unsightly streaks or marks.

The unique self-cleaning formula of Pilkington Activ™ means it can be placed even in the most hard-to-reach places and because it’s produced in the UK it won’t add to your carbon footprint either. Combined with Optitherm™ S3 which has a high light transmittance and low light reflectance with a high level of neutrality making it the perfect combination to allow light to flood into a room.

Bringing together glazing from the Pilkington range, and Lumen’s pioneering roof light expertise, it is the perfect way to make the most of all your interior spaces.
