The Intersolar India Conference is taking place for the fifth time in the Leela Kempinski Hotel in Mumbai from November 11–14, 2013. 700 national and international attendees as well as roughly 100 speakers from around the world are expected to participate in this international solar industry event.    Current conditions and developments in international markets are set to be discussed, with a special focus on the Indian market and the latest technologies and trends in the areas of photovoltaics (PV), PV production technologies, energy storage and solar thermal technologies.

The exhibition at the Bombay Exhibition Centre (BEC), Mumbai, runs from November 12–14, opening its doors one day after the start of the conference. A highlight of the exhibition is the presentation of the Intersolar AWARD for the category Solar Projects in India.

Around 200 exhibitors are presenting their new products, solutions and services from across the solar industry at this year’s Intersolar India, taking place from November 11–14. The Intersolar India Conference, which begins one day before the exhibition, consolidates and expands on the exhibition content. The most important topics and trends in the global solar industry are discussed by national as well as international experts from research, industry and associations. Over 100 presentations and panel discussions on photovoltaics, PV production technologies, energy storage systems and solar thermal technologies focus on current industry developments. Meanwhile, networking events offer numerous opportunities for attendees to meet international industry representatives, discuss ideas and maintain existing contacts.

Varied Conference Program

The first day of the conference, November 11, revolves around the current and future developments in the Indian market. The conferences main focus in the area of photovoltaics is formed by the development of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM). In addition to looking at national conditions, attention is also paid to the federal states, such as Andhra Pradesh, Tamil-Nadu and Kerala, which are currently promoting the development of the solar industry in particular. In the second phase of the National Solar Mission, a further 2.7 gigawatts (GW) of solar thermal capacity is intended to be added in addition to the 10 GW of PV capacity to be installed by 2017. Against this backdrop, the first day of the conference also features various contributions on the latest developments in solar thermal technologies, held in parallel with the Global PV Markets India session. The presentation given by Pankaj Kumar, Deputy Project Manager of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), India, above all explores the role of the United Nations Development Programme and Global Environment Facility (UNDP-GEF CSHP) in market development.

On November 12, a session entitled Solar Cities concentrates on the MNRE’s plan to develop up to 60 solar cities in India. The session, organized in cooperation with Green City Freiburg, examines the conditions, challenges and prospects of the ambitious plan and presents concrete examples, including in particular the experiences gained during the development of Green City Freiburg.

In order to achieve the expansion goals set by the Indian Government and federal states, the construction of large-scale PV plants will also assume a central role in the future, despite the considerable potential for roof-mounted systems. The current challenges posed by personnel training, project development, the construction and maintenance of large-scale PV plants and quality assurance therefore form the focal point of the sessions in the afternoon of November 12 and on November 13.

A series of presentations in the afternoon of November 12 discusses the development and prospects of other markets in the region, in particular Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal.

Highlights of the exhibition

In addition to the conference’s presentations and panel discussions, the exhibition, with around 200 exhibitors in the areas of photovoltaics, PV production technologies, energy storage and solar thermal technologies, also offers a variety of opportunities to find out about technologies, products and services in the solar industry, forge new contacts and consolidate business relationships. A particular highlight this year is also the presentation of the Intersolar AWARD for Solar Projects in India in hall 1, booth 1170 on November 12, 2013. The winners in the categories Off-Grid Solutions, Industrial and Commercial Use and Utility-Scale Projects are then announced at a special ceremony.
