Originally founded in 1717 as a free grammar school by its namesake the Revd. Humphrey Perkins, the school moved to its current site in 1902 and today educates around 820 pupils aged 11-16 years.
John Whalley, MD of Nationwide Windows Ltd comments: “The Humphrey Perkins school carries the motto: ‘Education is about instilling values and creating dreams’ and therefore it’s only right that the building fabric itself matches the progressive and positive attitude to teaching.
Under the school’s new leadership, we were commissioned to undertake a full door and window replacement programme across the school, including entrance ways.
“The contemporary styling and durability of our aluminium entrance, door and window systems, which include Folding Opening Handles for additional safety, make it not only fit for purpose in high traffic areas, but complementary to the envisioned enhancements to the style of the school buildings.
“The latest fenestration technology played a role too. The products used consist of innovative polyamide thermal break technology which creates a barrier between the cold air outside and the warm air inside. This technology significantly reduces thermal transmittance and enhances the overall U Value of the windows and doors. For additional security, all the windows were fitted with folding opening handles.
“When completing projects such as Humphrey Perkins, the key considerations for the school are for suppliers to work to timetables which fit around school holiday schedules, effective communication with the caretaker and project manager, liaison with other trades i.e. asbestos removal companies, and security of the building throughout the works. With over 30 years’ experience in delivering fenestration solutions to the education sector, Nationwide Windows Ltd has a proven track record in managing such demands, but our comprehensive service goes beyond that. From initial conceptual design to completion, we focus on achieving an effective, efficient and innovative solution which is tailored to each individual project. For us, it’s about manufacturing and installing good design solutions for windows, entrance doors and screens and curtain walling, and the project at Humphrey Perkins School is the perfect example of this.”
