In June this year, the heavyweight champion took care of business by defeating the 39-year-old Ukrainian journeyman in a 10 round unanimous decision fight which took place at the Sport and Congress Center, Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Alemania, Germany. The final judges’ scores were 97-93, 98-92, and 100-90.
Price appeared to hurt Zavorotnyi with a body shot in the 3rd round and a hard right hand to the head in the 7th. He was able to see the punches coming all night, and so could brace himself for the occasional hard shots that Zavorotnyi landed in the fight.
David’s promoter Kalle Sauerland is now interested in stepping the 6’8” Champion up a class by placing him with a top 10 contender for his next fight in Liverpool, with Sauerland’s goal being for Price to beat the top 10 contender by the end of the year.
“It would be good to come up against someone in the top 10 world ratings and Pricey is already in the top 10 of the WBC rankings himself.” Sauerland said to espn.co.uk.
The TuffX ambassador has recently beaten the following contenders: Yaroslav Zavorotnyi, Ondrej Pala and Istvan Ruzsinszky.
