The Croydon Adult Learning and Training (CALAT) Centre in New Addington, Surrey, has drafted in the help of solar control glazing Pilkington Eclipse Advantage™ to create a stunning curtain walling system for the centre’s entrance.

This centre is one of five training centres situated in and around Croydon used by CALAT, the sixth largest adult education service in the country.

The new centre, which cost approximately £3 million to build, specified Pilkington Eclipse Advantage™ Blue-Green within the entrance foyer façade for its solar control and low emissivity properties, enabling it to outperform other traditional glass solutions. It provides a degree of shade which regulates the temperature of the entrance foyer, helping to reduce overheating and creating an attractive, comfortable and welcoming environment for the students who take part in over 1,500 different educational courses provided by the centre.

The glass façade, which is approximately 7.2m high and 9m wide was installed by curtain wall engineering experts Structura UK who have undertaken a variety of successful large-scale glazing projects. They are also the first company in the UK to use this type of Pilkington glass for a curtain walling project of this scale.

Manny Patel, Managing Director, Structura UK, said: “We specialise in the installation of glass curtain walling on a large scale and always seek to use the highest quality glass to ensure our reputation as leaders in the field is maintained. Pilkington Eclipse Advantage™ enabled us to create a façade that helps to regulate the temperature and light emission to keep it comfortable for the students.”

Pilkington Eclipse Advantage™ is energy efficient, highly durable and allows architects and installers a great deal of flexibility to achieve their design ideas. It is also available in a wide range of colours to suit all manner of applications.
