CRL-U.S. Aluminum's Bi-folding and Stacking Architectural Glazing Systems Create Expansive Views in $15 Million Renovation of California's Historic Santa Anita Park

Date: 3 April 2015

C.R. Laurence contributes premium systems to aid Santa Anita Park's large-scale modernization project designed to revitalize horse racing at the landmark racetrack, and receive the 2015 Los Angeles Business Journal 'Best Hospitality Project' Award.

Since 1934, Santa Anita Park has been a major American landmark and prominent location for horse racing including the Santa Anita Derby, Santa Anita Handicap, and select Breeders' Cup World Championship events.Situated in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains in Arcadia, California and owned by The Stronach Group, Santa Anita Park has recently increased efforts to attract a new generation of fans to the exciting sport of horse racing.

The historic track was able to jumpstart this initiative through an impressive 13-week, $15 million renovation project completed by Shawmut Design and Construction in partnership with design firm AvroKO and Liberty Glass & Metal, Inc. The design team renovated a total of 68,500 sq. ft. of the storied property including the Chandelier, Americana, and Director's Rooms, Eddie Logan Suite, VIP Entry, inner mezzanines, press, and executive boxes, and grandstand.

For this large-scale undertaking, the design team turned to C.R. Laurence to supply glass railings, glass partitions, and architectural glass wall systems for their quality and trusted performance. Winner of Window & Door Magazine's 'Most Innovative Door', CRL-U.S. Aluminum Monterey Bi-Folding Glass Door and Wall Systems were installed in new executive offices to create fluid, transformative environments with precision-engineering that allows the window, wall, and door panels to slide smoothly and provide protection against undesirable weather conditions. CRL SPS Stacking Partition Systems were specified to give the new luxury suites unobstructed views of the home stretch in a quality design that is easy to operate and maintain. Both systems create spectacular views of the race track, making them dynamic architectural systems for sports venue applications. In addition, CRL's patented GRS TAPER-LOC Glass Railing Systems provided the newly renovated grandstand with improved safety and protection for guests while maintaining a modern, transparent aesthetic.

"The redevelopment of Santa Anita Park is more than just a renovation project, to us it serves as a revitalization of a prized landmark in the world of sports," says Lloyd Talbert, President of C.R. Laurence. "We are proud to have partnered with Liberty Glass, AvroKO, and Shawmut Design and Construction on this monumental project to tastefully upgrade and modernize this historic thoroughbred institution."

For its remarkable commercial redevelopment of a Los Angeles landmark, Santa Anita Park received the prestigious 2015 L.A. Business Journal (LABJ) 'Best Hospitality Project' Award, and has been recognized as a valuable contribution to the L.A. economy.
