Nearly 5,500 metres square of the energy saving glass has been used for the Shanghai Railway Station North Square Building as part of a major refurbishment project. The station upgrade was one of a number of key projects undertaken by China in preparation for the Expo, which runs from May to October this year.
Pilkington's joint venture CS1 plant in China officially launched production of Energy Advantage in November 2009 and the product has already been used in a number of major projects across the country.
The Shanghai Railways Bureau had originally chosen an alternative low-e product for the station project but changed the specification after a meeting in December 2009 with the Energy Advantage sales team and processors Taicang Zhuo Gao Glass, one of Pilkington's and SYP's long-term customers.
Contracts were signed in January 2010, the glass was delivered in early March and the whole project completed by May 24th. The building was open to passengers on May 31st.
