The document is intended to provide the architect, engineer, contractor and property owner with this information and knowledge to help them understand the value and effective application of these features, as well as the benefits of different plastic glazing materials.
"Based upon discussions with stakeholders in the construction value chain, it became clear that there was a fundamental lack of understanding of the key features and benefits of the various plastic glazing materials available for skylights and sloped glazing," says Ken Schwartz (Covestro), chair of the Selection and Design of Plastic Glazing for Skylights Task Group.
"The goal of AAMA PSSG-16 Task Group was to create a document that would provide background on the options available, and guidelines for selection of plastic glazing based upon functional performance requirements, codes and regulatory considerations and the relative materials properties."
The document also highlights the ability of various plastics to meet design and aesthetic objectives for architects building owners, noted Schwartz.
PSSG-16, as well as other AAMA documents, may be purchased from AAMA's online store.
