The first exhibition was staged way back in 1979 to offer a specialist international showcase for the Italian glass trade. Over the years, the potential of the glass industry has grown, also because of the ongoing and increasingly more leading-edge research carried out by Italian and foreign companies.
This has been the driver of Vitrum’s growing importance, making it one of the topmost international appointments. Today, Vitrum is viewed as one of the must-attend and most authoritative exhibitions for highly qualified business dealings and a place where all companies can sign important commercial partnerships.
Yet figures more than words can best describe these positive results. Vitrum started out in 1979 with 5.000 square meters of net exhibition space. In 2005, this grew to more than 28.000 square meters and more than 31.000 in 2007. The increase in the surface area also translates into a significant increase in the number of exhibitors and, as a result, in the number of visitors as well.
The figures are:
1979
- Exhibitors (Italy and other countries) 118
- Visitors (Italy and other countries) 5,012
2003
- Exhibitors(Italy and other countries) 432
- Visitors (Italy and other countries) 13,032
2007
- Exhibitors (Italy and other countries) 581 (+32.65% versus 2005)
- Visitors (Italy and other countries, from 97 nations) 17,097 (+ 6.74% versus 2005)
The organizers of Vitrum are moderately optimistic and expect the attendance figures to be up for the 2009 exhibition as well. According to the latest figures, more than 600 exhibitors will be attending and approx. 25,000 people are expected to visit the 4-day event. Once again Vitrum will be the showcase for the key players in this sector.
