SOLARBAN 72 STARPHIRE glass, CLARVISTA glass winners for 2011PITTSBURGH, Feb. 8, 2012 – PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) has announced that both SOLARBAN(R) 72 STARPHIRE(R) glass and CLARVISTA(R) glass were selected as 2011 products of the year by readers of USGlass magazine.

Solarban 72 Starphire glass, chosen as the best value-added glass product of 2011, is a solar control, low-emissivity glass that provides high visible light transmittance, exceptional clarity and superior solar control performance. To maximize transparency, insulating glass units made with Solarban 72 Starphire glass feature one lite of uncoated Starphire glass and a second with an advanced triple-silver coating that is engineered exclusively for use on a Starphire glass substrate. The combination produces an industry-leading light-to-solar gain (LSG) ratio of 2.38.

Readers of USGlass magazine also selected a shower door by C.R. Laurence made with Clarvista glass by PPG as the best bath enclosure/shower door product of 2011. With proper maintenance, Clarvista glass can look newer longer than competing shower glass products because it is made with a coating that seals the glass surface, enabling it to resist corrosion caused by heat, humidity, soap and household cleaning products. C.R. Laurence and PPG co-market the shower door, which was introduced at the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Las Vegas last April.

Last November, USGlass magazine asked its subscribers in the retail and glazing contractor industries to vote on the most significant product introductions, updates and hot sellers for 2011. More than a dozen winners were announced in categories ranging from hardware, software and components to protective glazings and material handling equipment.
