SORG IRD concept – batch surface glazing confirmed

Date: 12 May 2011

The main object of the Increased Radiation Doghouse is to ensure that surface of the batch piles are glazed over when they leave the doghouse.

Choice of size increases the residence time in the doghouse area and the larger superstructure opening to the melter gives higher superstructure temperatures in the doghouse.

The video, taken at the exit from the new doghouse, clearly shows the glazed surface. The lack of horizontal gas flow in the atmosphere above the batch piles in the doghouse itself is shown by the wisps of smoke from the batch piles. This demonstrates that batch transport in the superstructure of the doghouse itself cannot take place.

BATCH3 stands for SORG´s three step approach to batch preheating. EME-NEND, IRD, and batch preheater.
