SCHOTT Tells the Story of Glass Through Award-Winning Blog

Date: 3 June 2015

SCHOTT North America’s Glass Made of Ideas blog was recently honored with the Award of Excellence by the Communicator Awards.

The award recognizes the company’s commitment to innovation, as the blog captures insights from SCHOTT’s scientists and experts around inspiring glass applications and trends through stories, videos, and graphics.Glass is one of the oldest working materials in the world, yet its capabilities are still not fully known. To change this perception, SCHOTT launched the Glass Made of Ideas blog as a destination for industrial designers, manufacturers, and consumers to learn more about the potential of glass.

“We want to get people excited about the material and inspire them to use glass in their products,” said Eric Urruti at SCHOTT. “Glass can do so many things, and thanks to our broad expertise, we can create specialized glass to meet specific applications. At SCHOTT, we view ourselves as innovators at heart. We translate scientific discovery into useful technology every day. Through our blog, we’ve been able to share this expertise with a broader audience, and spark a greater interest in glass and glass sciences.”

The Glass Made of Ideas blog features stories that highlight the various uses of glass in many industries, including home technologies; pharmaceutical and medical devices; defense and energy applications; and imaging, lighting, and optics. Plus, guest posts and interviews from scientists and industrial designers at leading universities and manufacturing organizations offer fresh perspectives on industry topics and trends. The most popular stories include “How to keep your glass-ceramic cooktop looking shiny and new,” “Top kitchen design trends for 2015: Blending new tech and classic style,” and “18 glass sculptures from a master of glass and light.”

“This honor from the Communicator Awards only solidifies the value of our work, and motivates us to continue to tell the story of innovation in new and engaging ways,” said Rina Della Vecchia, Marketing Communications Manager at SCHOTT North America.

The Communicator Awards is the largest and most competitive award program that honors creative excellence for communications professionals. More than 6,000 entries were received for the 2015 Communicator Awards, and winners were selected by top industry professionals and executives.
