Saint-Gobain Signs on as an Official Bronze Level Sponsor of USA Luge

USA Luge announced that Saint-Gobain Abrasives, Inc. has agreed to a four-year sponsorship as the “USA Luge Official Abrasive Supplier.

The Worcester, Mass. based company will provide the association with abrasive products through 2011. “We are very excited to be the USA Luge team’s Official Bronze Level Sponsor.By providing the team with financial support as well as technical abrasives and application expertise, we believe we can help the team leading up to and at the 2010 winter games,” said Mark Rayfield, Saint-Gobain’s Vice President and General Manager, Abrasives North America.



Rayfield noted that U.S. luge athletes used several Saint-Gobain Abrasive Norton branded products last season. The Saint-Gobain Abrasives used by the team included Norton SG Blaze™ R980 belts and Speed-Loc® discs, A275 Multi-Air™, Black Ice®, waterproof sandpaper, a full range of film rolls for polishing the racing steels and numerous automotive aftermarket products for paint preparation and polishing to improve the look and performance of the sleds.



“Saint-Gobain is helping us improve our medal chances over the next three years as we build toward the Games in 2010,” noted USA Luge’s marketing director and 1998 Olympic silver medalist, Gordy Sheer. “Their superior abrasive and sandpaper products reduce the amount of friction between our runners and the ice, which directly impacts the performance of our athletes.”
