Toughened glass was today hailed a success in combating glass attacks in Scotland's largest town. Licensing chiefs in Renfrewshire ordered the blanket introduction of safety glass three years ago to combat violent crime.
Since then, every pub and club in Paisley and surrounding areas has adopted the policy and the number of serious injuries caused by glass attacks has almost halved.
As revealed last week by the Evening Times, community safety and licensing officers in Glasgow have launched a campaign to cut glass attacks in the city.
Glass attacks accounted for 81 attempted murders and serious assaults in the city in the past year - a quarter of all cases.
Police want all 45 nightclubs and 800 licensed premises in the city to introduce toughened glass or plastic tumblers and bottles.
