The latest technology in development is EcoBlendTM, which incorporates recycled, post-industrial PVC content into the profile and will be previewed at GlassBuild America. While many European markets today mandate a higher percentage of recycled content, Quanex is working toward bringing the same environmental practices to North America.
The EcoBlend technology combines a processed PVC-recycled blend within the non-visible facets of the frame profile and Quanex’s MikronBlendTM vinyl on all visible profile surfaces – ensuring outstanding weathering performance.
“Our EcoBlend advancement takes our sustainability commitment to a new level, as well as our belief to continuously look for innovative ways to use our technology to lessen our ecological footprint,” said Jeff York, vice president of process innovation, Quanex Window and Door Systems. “As part of our sustainability practices, we take an active approach to reclaim PVC production out-fall. Our ultimate goal is to consume more waste than we generate.”
Since the early 1980s, Quanex window and door systems have incorporated recycled, color-sorted MikronBlend PVC – and they were one of the first to do so in the industry.
“In the past, using post-industrial, recycled PVC was not always thought to yield a profile of the highest visual quality,” said York. “But to enhance color-tone consistency, all of the recycled PVC EcoBlend content is extruded through a color stabilization process to make it more visually appealing.”
The EcoBlend offering is source-certified to assure chemical and physical properties are met before it reaches Quanex extruders.
