Pre-Applied PIB for cost-effective dual seal units

Date: 21 March 2011

Insulated glass (IG) manufacturers can now purchase aluminium, steel or Thermobar warm edge spacer bar with pre-applied PIB (Polyisobutylene) primary seal from the UK’s leading supplier of IG components, Thermoseal Group.

Until now the increased demand for high performance dual seal units has meant that IG manufacturers must either purchase PIB application machines or pay staff to apply PIB by hand. All types of Thermoseal Group spacers can now be supplied with inkjet-printed company details and with pre-applied PIB. It’s ready to cut on a normal snip saw and use in IG manufacture.

Thermoseal Group’s Sales Director, Mark Hickox explains: “There is a necessity for sealed unit manufacturers to dual seal units to meet EN1279 part 3 regulations and WER ratings, but it is not necessarily the best economic climate to invest in new equipment or additional staff. Pre-applied PIB is the ideal solution to meeting requirements without increasing business costs. Of course, we can sell the PIB tape for manufacturers to apply themselves as well as automated machinery to do the job, but it can actually work out cheaper to buy it pre-applied.”
