PPG appoints Iams vice president, corporate communications and marketing

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 28, 2012 – PPG Industries (NYSE: PPG) today announced that Bryan Iams has been named vice president, corporate communications and marketing, effective Oct. 1.

Iams will report to J. Rich Alexander, executive vice president.

In this role, Iams will be responsible for directing PPG’s global external and internal communications including strategic messaging, media relations, crisis and issues management, brand management, public affairs and communications process management, and he will provide direct communications support to PPG Chairman and CEO Charles E. Bunch.

“Bryan’s experience as a trusted communications leader and adviser to large global corporations will serve PPG well as we continue to expand our operations and communicate our corporate brand around the world,” Alexander said.

Iams joins PPG from FedEx, where he served since May as principal advisor, communications, for FedEx Ground headquartered in Pittsburgh. Previously, he directed external communications activities for Bayer Corp. and Bayer MaterialScience in North America as head of strategic and external communications. During his 10 years with Bayer, Iams was responsible for external media, public relations, corporate advertising, social media, crisis management, marketing communications, public affairs and internal communications. Iams also worked for more than seven years at global public relations agency Burson-Marsteller directing key accounts that included work with PPG. He earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in public management from Carnegie Mellon University.
