The world's first self-cleaning glass has moved into the arena of major landmark projects with the launch of Pilkington Planar Activ™.

"We are now offering the first ever self-cleaning, frameless structural system," said Pilkington Activ national product manager Ian Spokes. "The combination of our flagship glazing system with our flagship glass opens up huge opportunities for the construction industry.

"The combination has been made possible by the development of a specialised sealant which overcomes the problem of silicone oils leaching onto the surface of the glass and inhibiting the self-cleaning action.

The new Pilkington Planar Activ was launched to the architectural press in July and will be introduced to trade customers in September.
