Pittsburgh Glass Works LLC Wednesday said it will establish a new manufacturing facility in Elkin, N.

C., that will employ more than 260. Hiring is expected to begin in 2012.

The new plant will produce automotive glass products for original equipment manufacturers and aftermarket organizations within the automotive industry. The company said the decision to add the plant was due to continued surging demand for automotive glass parts.

PGW has begun the process of completing infrastructure improvements to an existing 85-acre site that will be converted to a 416,000-square-foot facility with a planned investment of more than $85 million.

“The Elkin facility will be a state of the art operation that enhances our current customer delivery, increases our manufacturing capacity and provides flexibility within our manufacturing operations,” PGW Chairman and CEO James D. Wiggins said in a prepared statement.
