Pilkington Activ™ Blue has been specified in a unique conservatory in the village of Sarnau, Wales.

With a bespoke design that spans two floors, the gable-style conservatory uses this self-cleaning glass to help take advantage of the spectacular views of the Welsh countryside. The Stamp family, who own the house, wanted a conservatory they could use all year round to enjoy the picturesque view and sunset across the valley. They contacted conservatory specialists Nolan uPVC for a solution, who after working with the Stamps to design their dream conservatory, specified Pilkington Activ™ Blue. The Insulating Glass Units comprised of 4mm toughened Pilkington Activ™ Blue for the outer pane of the IGU combined with 4mm Pilkington K Glass™ for the inner pane, ensuring that the conservatory can be used all year round, and providing the family with uncompromised views.

To make the most of the bright, natural surroundings and the clarity that Pilkington Activ™ Blue provides, Nolan uPVC devised a grated metal floor for the top storey which allows sunshine to filter through to the ground floor and flood the area with natural light. This floor was easily incorporated into the steel support structure that holds the conservatory together and adds to its distinctive look.

As well as creating two distinguished new rooms, the Stamps wanted to ensure that the conservatory was aligned with the rest of their home. To achieve this, the conservatory entrance was created using internal uPVC bi-folding doors joining it seamlessly and allowing natural light into the adjoining room.

Sarah Cleevely, Marketing Manager, Nolan uPVC said: “The Stamp family were really keen to make the most of their property’s location and a conservatory was the perfect way to do this. Not only do they now have two extra rooms but also an entirely unique conservatory that will add value to their property. As conservatory specialists, our team knows from experience, the most suitable type of glazing for each project, and for the Stamps, Pilkington Activ™ Blue was the perfect fit. Pilkington Activ™ Blue is ideal for conservatories; its solar control properties help keep internal temperatures cooler whilst still maintaining excellent light transmittance – perfect for the Stamps to watch the beautiful sunset. The Stamp’s don’t need to worry about frequently cleaning the glass either – as its self-cleaning properties mean the conservatory glass is continually self cleaning. Pilkington Activ™ Blue also dries off faster after rain leaving reduced streaks,   providing clearer views all year round.”

The innovative coating on Pilkington Activ™ Blue lasts for the lifetime of the insulating glass unit. It works in two ways: first it uses daylight to break down organic dirt ( such as the organic content of bird droppings) and then it uses rain water to wash away loosened dirt from external surfaces, making it ideal for places that are difficult to reach.
