Nippon Sheet Glass acquisition of Pilkington cleared by EU

The European Commission said it has cleared the proposed acquisition by Japan's Nippon Sheet Glass Co (NSG) of UK peer Pilkington.

The commission said the transaction would not significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area (EEA).

The EU executive said the acquisition would not lead to a structural change on European float glass markets, given the different geographical focus of the groups.

NSG is predominantly active in Japan and Asia, while Pilkington is predominantly active in Europe and the US, it said.
