Mukul Somany, VC & MD – HNG, has been appointed as the President of The All India Glass Manufacturers’ Federation (AIGMF)

The role has been vested on Mr. Somany owing to his rich experience and contribution to the glass industry in India.



Speaking at the occasion Mr. Somany said, “I feel greatly humbled by the confidence AIGMF has shown on me. As the President of the federation, my duty would be to promote glass as a sector through various programs and initiatives. I shall try not only to match up to the expectations of my peer group, but also broaden the purview of our activities so that we can emerge as a global entity.”



During Mr. Somany’s tenure, the objective for AIGMF would be to expand its network through various memberships and contracts. The federation is planning to sign formal contacts with IIP, FEVE, WPO, GPI and other GLASS associations for better co-ordination on common issues. A formal contract with the Government of India is also being planned to create the required infrastructure for Glass Recycling, an important but hugely neglected aspect of glass manufacturing in India.



Mr. Mukul Somany is the youngest entrepreneur in the Somany family, who has immensely contributed to the growth of glass industry in India. Under his supervision, Hindusthan National Glass & Industries Limited, the flagship company of the HNG Group has not only grown to be the largest producer of container glass in India, but has also received a number of awards and recognitions for path breaking innovations in container glass industry in India. Mr. Mukul Somany has also been a major force in the Indian float glass industry.

Mr. Mukul Somany is the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Hindusthan National Glass & Industries Limited, India’s largest glass container manufacturer with an annual turnover of Rs. 1500 Crore (FY 2009-10). He is a noted industrialist in the glass manufacturing segment with an industry experience of more than 23 years.



With his vision and insights, Mr. Mukul Somany has successfully converted HNG from a two unit to a pan India business with several successful acquisitions. Mr. Somany has also help the Company to garner the most prestigious set of customers including Hindustan Unilever, GlaxoSmithKline, Nestle, Koeleman, Global Green, Heinz, Dabur, Pfizer, Cipla, Reckitt Benckiser, Ranbaxy, Himalaya, United Breweries, SAB Miller, Asia Pacific Breweries, United Spirits, Pernod Ricard, Diageo, Radico Khaitan, Bacardi, Coco Cola and Pepsi.
