Mir Stekla 2022, the 23rd International Exhibition for Glass Products, Manufacturing, Processing and Finishing Technology, is running at Expocentre Fairgrounds.

Mir Stekla has a reputation of an effective business platform and is organised by EXPOCENTRE AO with support of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Glass Union, the Russian Union of Designers, the National Association of Manufacturers of Building Materials, Products and Structures, under auspices of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

This year, more than 80 companies from 12 countries are taking part in the exhibition: China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia, Turkiye and the USA. Renowned Russian and foreign companies, represented by their subsidiaries and Russian partners, are demonstrating new equipment and technologies.

The product sectors of the exhibition cover literally all aspects of the glass industry - from glass production and processing, tools and materials to the most diverse glass products themselves, including artistic glass, scientific and design developments, translucent structures, glass transportation and storage, and much more.

The programme of Mir Stekla 2022 also includes important industry events. On the first day of the exhibition the Forum on New Challenges for the Glass Industry 2022 took place.

The forum was welcomed by a moderator, RBC+ columnist Elena Khrupova. In a constructive dialogue, the participants talked about what is urgent for the glass industry today. "On the one hand, it is a fast growing industry with high technology, but on the other hand, the industry is facing certain challenges of 2022", said the moderator. How will the circumstances play out with exports, what the demand indicator will be and to what extent domestic production can fill it - these and other topics were discussed at the forum.

Roman Kuprin, Deputy Director of the Department of Metallurgy and Building Materials of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, addressed the participants online. He spoke about the current situation on the Russian glass market and state support measures for glass companies. "Last year there was high demand for sheet glass and good prospects. However, this year the outlook is not rosy. Almost 30% of sheet glass was exported. Now this glass ended up in the domestic market, and its consumption has fallen - due to a decrease in construction since March by about 20%. The demand for glass containers has also become lower. The loading level has dropped from 90% to 60-70%," said the representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Sergey Sekin, Executive Director of the Glass Union, gave a presentation and detailed the work of the Union. "The priorities have become slightly different. Import substitution, technical regulation and standardisation issues have come to the fore. The government approved an anti-crisis action plan reflecting the transition to the best technologies. Companies are looking for new suppliers, building new supply chains," stressed the speaker.

Anton Mor, Director General of Siberian Glass, spoke about a shortage of glassware in the near future. According to the speaker, many counterparts do not exist in Russia. In the future, those enterprises that will update their equipment will face this problem. It is necessary to solve the issues comprehensively at the level of the government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Elena Emelyanova, Executive Director of the Glass Packaging Manufacturers Association, drew attention to the problems faced by glass packaging manufacturers. This is, first of all, the import of equipment.

Yulia Chernets, Director of Social Facilities Directorate of A101 Group, and Nikolay Faneev, Chief Architect of IND architects, spoke about the prospects and tendencies of the industry development.
