Nearly 90 companies entered the contest, which is run by the Mexicali Maquiladora Association - the local Chamber of Commerce and Industrial Development - and compares entrants for productivity, quality, yield, plant efficiency, teamwork and environmental impact.
The Mexicali plant was recognised for a recent project to reduce scratches and discrepancies in the pre-process areas of the windscreen line. The 11-strong project team was led by Guillermo Corrales and Israel Marquez.
"This is a very highly regarded award scheme which was launched in Mexicali 17 years ago and has since been adopted by 330 cities throughout Mexico," said plant manager Art Benavent.
"It is a well-deserved reward for the project team and all the employees are extremely proud to have won. We have had special shirts printed with the competition logo and everyone is wearing them."
The presentation was made at a special ceremony attended by local and state officials, including the Governor of Baja California.
