Measure Stress Non-Destructively to Comply with CE and Other Industry Standards

Date: 19 October 2009

The GASP® polarimeter enables manufacturers of tempered or heat-strengthened glass to inspect and measure surface stress (pre-stress) easily and non-destructively to industry specifications, including EN1863, EN12150, ASTM C1048 and ASTM C1279.

Stress imbalances or overtempering may cause spontaneous breakage to occur.

GASP instruments confirm full tempering by providing a measurement of surface compression within the glass, which is correlated to mechanical strength. GASP polarimeters are also used in safety glass applications to optimize furnace settings and to ensure proper fragmentation characteristics.
