LLumar® UV Window Film Helps Protect Truck Drivers from Harmful Sun Exposure and Improves Cabin Comfort

Date: 20 April 2012

ST. LOUIS, April 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Solutia Inc. (NYSE: SOA), a global leader in performance materials and specialty chemicals, announces its LLumar® AIR80™ window film meets the United States Department of Transportation's (DOT's) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's clarification to safety regulations regarding window visibility in commercial trucks.

Millions of commercial trucks may now utilize select UV window films on side windows for added protection from harmful UVA rays, which have been associated with increased risk of skin cancer. The recent change follows numerous reports of higher-than-average rates of skin cancer on the left side of the face and arm, according to a 2011 article in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, noting driver-side UVA exposure as a likely contributor to the disease.

Through proprietary technology, LLumar AIR80 window film provides enhanced protection against harmful ultraviolet rays, while also keeping vehicles significantly cooler. Testing has demonstrated that installing LLumar AIR80 film can keep a vehicle's interior surfaces as much as 29 degrees Fahrenheit (16 degrees Celsius) cooler when compared to an unprotected vehicle.  This temperature reduction increases cabin comfort and reduces the load on air conditioning systems.  The non-conductive ceramic coating technology ensures there is no interference with electronic signals from radios, GPS devices, cellular telephones or electronic toll sensors.

"Exceptional added protection from UV rays is one of the prime benefits of the full range of LLumar UV window film products. While other films employ dark-colored tinting to achieve similar levels of heat rejection, LLumar AIR80 window film is light enough to meet the DOT's safety regulations for most commercial trucks as well as many window visibility laws worldwide," said Mark Gershenson, global automotive segment director for Solutia's Performance Films division.

LLumar window films, the world's leading automotive window film brand, are professionally installed at more than 1,000 LLumar and FormulaOne® dealers throughout the United States.  They are manufactured in the United States and are backed with a manufacturer's warranty against bubbling, peeling or crackling.

Solutia is a manufacturer member of The International Window Film Association (IWFA), a unified industry body of window film dealers, distributors and manufacturers that facilitates the growth of the industry by providing unbiased research, influencing policy and promoting awareness of window film.
