Since officially unveiling ShowerGuard™ to the industry last year at IBS, Guardian also launched www.ShowerGuardGlass.com, an information site where consumers can find a retailer in their area. The company is selling the product through specialty glass shops where customers go for high-end glass shower enclosures.
Designed for residential and commercial use in shower and bath enclosures, ShowerGuard™ glass is easier to clean than standard glass and maintains its original appearance over time. The surface of ShowerGuard™ is sealed through a patented ion beam process during the manufacture of the glass.
"ShowerGuard is a total homerun with our customers, who are very discriminating," said Tom Whitaker, founder and president of Mr. ShowerDoor, Inc., a ShowerGuard dealer based in Norwalk, Conn. with franchisees in Missouri, Ohio, Florida, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Massachusetts. "With the continuing trend toward clear shower glass and larger enclosures, a surface that's easier to clean and permanently protected to maintain its original beauty is a huge benefit to consumers."
ShowerGuard™ glass resists the corrosion and discoloration caused by continual exposure to hard water, soaps and harsh household cleaners. These contaminants cause a chemical reaction that leaves standard glass rough and pitted so that it becomes easily clouded with residue, stain and scale buildup.
"We developed ShowerGuard™ glass in response to overwhelming consumer interest in an easy-to-clean shower glass that stays clear and beautiful," said Patricia Kennedy, marketing director for Guardian's interior products. "What many people don't realize is that standard glass is porous, so basic, everyday use can lead to a shower that is almost impossible to clean."
ShowerGuard™ glass won the 2006 Glass Magazine Crystal Achievement Award for "Most Innovative Bath Enclosure." The awards recognize outstanding achievements in glass technology, manufacturing and marketing.
Guardian also announced ShowerGuard™ will be available on UltraWhite™ glass in May 2007. Made with reduced iron content, UltraWhite™ provides a clearer appearance, even on the edges where thicker glass tends to show a greenish tint. This product line extension is in response to the market's demand for thicker glass on high-end shower enclosures.
ShowerGuard™ glass is demonstrably more durable than other forms of glass protection. Over time, spray-on or wipe-on treatments will wear off and cease to protect the glass. They can require specialty maintenance products, as well as continual reapplication. ShowerGuard™ never needs to be reapplied and is backed by a 10-year limited warranty. ShowerGuard™ glass can be maintained with a soft cloth or wet sponge and most common household cleaners.
