GPD China 2004 attracted almost 200 Chinese glass processors

Date: 5 May 2004

China seminar was arranged two weeks ago in Peking, China. The technical seminar was to offer a challenging opportunity to the speakers of the seminar to meet the leading glass processing rofessionals in China and various representatives of the associations and other authorities responsible for safety glass regulations and licences in China.

GPD China 2004 was arranged by the Chinese subsidiary of Tamglass, which is a Glaston Technologies company. The event attracted nearly 200 glass processors from hina and neighbouring countries.

The main items in the seminar concerned the processing procedure of tempered and laminated glass as well as the changes and opportunities presented by new technology. The market situation in different market areas, manufacturing methods and the quality of coated glass were also items of discussion. In his opening speech, Mr. Niu Jianguo, Vice Chairman of the State Economy Bureau, clarified the challenges of today and the future outlook for the glass industry in a developing construction industry.

GPD China 2004 was an opportunity to meet with key members and experts of the glass industry and to learn
about the latest technical know-how from companies known throughout the world. Preparations for the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008 and Shanghai World Expo in 2010 have already created several building projects in China and they will give the entire construction industry tremendous opportunities. Glass, as one of the most popular and versatile materials, will play a key role in these interesting projects.

The GPD China seminar presented solutions and fresh approaches. Glass Processing Days (GPD) has
started organising local events between the global GPD conferences focusing on a single market area’s own
glass processing trends and characteristics. GPD China was the second local GPD event. This two-day
conference was found to be very useful by the industry and visitors.

The Glass Processing Days Conference has been held eight times in Finland. The first conference in 1992
was attended by 30 experts. By 1997 the conference had achieved the status of the world’s most
distinguished event for glass industry experts, and in 2003 this conference attracted more than 900 visitors.
