Renowned global companies will be exhibiting at the Glassman Latin America event, which takes place in Guadalajara, Mexico on September 22 and 23. The event focuses on the hollow glassmaking industry and aims to bring together international experts, glass container manufacturers and businesses that use glass containers, to discover the latest innovations. The exhibiting companies will come from Europe, Asia, North and South America as well as Mexico.
Such has been the popularity of the event that only limited exhibition space is still available. A free-to-attend conference will run parallel to the exhibition and so far has 14 confirmed speakers who will each give a 20-minute presentation.
The conference theme is ‘Future Solutions in the container and hollow glass industries’ and speakers include Mexican beverage glass manufacturer Grupo Modelo and Mexican pharmaceutical glass manufacturer Gerresheimer. Another presentation will see glass industry supplier Praxair speak about a recent installation at the Grupo Pavisa container glass plant near Mexico City.
So far visitors that have registered to attend include representatives from Mexican manufacturers Vitro, Pavisa, Fevisa, Grupo Modelo and Sivesa. Mexican glass industry The Mexican hollow glass industry is booming at the moment thanks to worldwide demand for Mexican beer and spirits.
Mexican beers such as Corona, Desperados and Modelo Especial have become household names in the USA and Europe. Mexico’s other famous export, Tequila, needs no introduction and remains a popular spirit all around the globe.
The resulting popularity of these beverages means demand for Mexican glass has reached an unprecedented scale – which is great news for Mexican glassmakers.
The domestic industry has been in the news already this year with two huge acquisitions. Recently, the world’s largest container glass manufacturer, O-I, said it was to buy Mexico’s largest container glass manufacturer Vitro for $2.15 billion.
In February this year, US company Crown Holdings said it had bought Mexican packager Empaque for $1.225 billion. The deal included Empaque’s glass bottle-making company Sivesa, based in Veracruz, Mexico. A third acquisition, in 2012, saw global brewing giant Anheuser-Busch InBev acquire Mexico’s Grupo Modelo group, which makes glass bottles and also brews beer.
