Glass maker begins plant construction

Date: 14 June 2004

Owens-Illinois will bring 150 new jobs to Weld County with the opening of its glass manufacturing plant there next summer.

The groundbreaking for the 450,000-square-foot plant took place Thursday.

Owens-Illinois, based in Toledo, Ohio, looked at nearly a dozen sites before picking the Weld County town of Windsor, already home to Kodak Colorado. The Windsor plant will manufacture about 1 billion bottles a year for the Anheuser-Busch brewery in Fort Collins.

Cost to build the plant is estimated at approximately $119 million.
