A performance-event at the prestigious marionette theater of Gianni and Cosetta Colla marked the closing of the first Vitrum Lab project, a creative workshop dedicated to the art of glass working and designed for interactive learning for elementary school children in the city of Milan, was held at the Rho Fiera Milano October 28 - 31 during the Vitrum 2009 international trade show.Milan’s Teatro Colla formed the evocative backdrop on Monday November 30, 2009, when Vitrum, the international trade fair of machinery, equipment and systems for the processing of flat and hollow glass, glass, and finished products for industry, and strong supporter of the Vitrum Lab project (highlighting the craftsmanship and promotion of the culture of glass), in cooperation with the Vetroricerca Glas&Modern Association, rewarded the first group of schools to participate in the special initiative with a day at the theater. The schools that participated enthusiastically in the inaugural Vitrum Lab project in October, thanks to the support of the Lombardy Region – Education, Training and Work, and the Province of Milan, were invited to attend a performance of “The Adventures of Pinocchio”, put on by the famed Gianni and Cosetta Colla Company, a branch of one of the leading dynasties in Italy’s marionette tradition. After the performance, the theater also set the stage for presenting the children with the fruits of their labor during the Fair -- 500 colored glass tiles created by them during the workshops.

Half of the tiles were used in the construction of 12 glass showcases offered to the schools by Vitrum to commemorate the initiative. The remaining tiles were given to the children so they could take them home and share their experience with their parents.

Since 1979, Vitrum has been the meeting place for trade professionals. And, as in the past, it not only serves as a point of encounter for trade, but also as an oasis where history, tradition, growth and technological innovation come together.
