GEAR PRO from Carl Zeiss is used to measure numerous types of gear wheels: from spur gears, bevel gears and worms to rotors.

Revision 3.8 is the latest enhancement to GEAR PRO and can accommodate a wide variety of gear wheels and dimensions. Gear wheels are becoming increasingly important: they are required for hybrid engines and are used in large wind turbine planetary gears. Gear wheels thus play a key role in the energy efficiency of tomorrow.

GEAR PRO can now be used without a rotary table, a major benefit particularly for the measurement of large gear wheels for ship engines and wind turbines. "This latest version marks real progress, especially for large gear wheels. Depending on the size of the measuring object, it is not always possible to use a rotary table," says Erwin Sauter, Head of Development of Special Applications at Carl Zeiss Industrial Metrology. Furthermore, this considerably reduces the amount of work for the operator.

New stylus handling

Additional new features include stylus handling and the option of performing a measurement in a horizontal clamping position with the workpiece axis in the X or Y direction of the coordinate measuring machine. This means that operators have the flexibility of clamping their measuring objects vertically or horizontally depending on the size. Regarding the stylus systems, the user must only provide a suitable system and assign the gear wheel with a click of the mouse in the data definition. Until now, it was only possible to use one stylus system with a single stylus or a star stylus. Now, many different systems can be used and placed in the stylus rack. The intelligent software automatically selects the right stylus for each measuring job and every tooth.

Outstanding user-friendliness

User-friendliness is another key element of GEAR PRO. This includes easily importing the data from the drawing for the measurement. This is beneficial for users as it considerably speeds up the process. Numerous graphic displays clearly simplify the operation of the software. For example, the coordinate system of the machine and the gear wheel are displayed graphically in the CAD window when a horizontal measurement is made. Stylus data can be viewed in the CAD view for a plausibility check. It is possible to rotate the stylus systems and change their size as needed. For the output of the results, the graphics, as a PDF, and the statistics can be stored in several folders depending on the log header variables. As a result, the evaluation of the data has a better structure, and the user receives detailed documentation and therefore faster access to the respective results.

In addition to contact measuring systems, GEAR PRO supports computer tomography, which is particularly beneficial for plastic gear wheels. GEAR PRO is software for all types of gear wheels and dimensions, and thus universal gear wheel measuring software.
