Corning's ClearCurve solution was first introduced last October during the U.S. FTTH Conference in Orlando, Fla. The product suite helps overcome the installation challenges in multiple-dwelling units (MDUs) by providing a bend-insensitive fiber optimized for the strenuous deployment conditions seen in these complexes.
Corning is presenting its new ClearCurve riser cable assembly and drop cable at the Paris show. These products help solve the historical technical challenges faced by telecommunications carriers installing FTTH networks in European high-rise apartment buildings and MDUs. This solution is based on Corning's ClearCurve optical fiber which features the company's revolutionary nanoStructures™ fiber design. With this design the optical fiber maintains its signal strength when bent or curved, with performance results 100 times better than standard single-mode fibers and an order of magnitude better than other backwards-compatible bend fibers. The new fiber also enables simpler and more aesthetically pleasing designs for cable, hardware and equipment in MDU deployments.
"This fiber technology coupled with our unique cable design allows cabled fiber to be bent around very tight corners with virtually no signal loss," said Malcolm Barnett, managing director Corning Cable Systems, EMEA. "ClearCurve optical cable enables bends of 5mm radius and the use of stapling secures cables during installation, while still protecting and preserving the required power budgets of telecommunications carriers. ClearCurve optical fiber cables are far more flexible, as rugged as copper cable and easier to route within buildings. And, we have reduced the size and improved the performance of bulky hardware cabinetry, giving building owners and developers an aesthetically appealing solution, while making it easier for carriers to install."
Corning is demonstrating the superior performance of ClearCurve optical fiber, cable, hardware and equipment through live demonstrations on the Corning stand and in-depth presentations in their Visitor Centre at the conference. Telecommunications carriers will see how the Corning ClearCurve solution allows them to design optical fiber cable into these complex environments and give their customers the near infinite bandwidth benefits of FTTH.
