Vitrum 2009 will be the perfect opportunity to highlight Chromatech Ultra, the latest-generation spacer bar which has met with great success on the market due its particularly innovative technology. To achieve state-of-the-art performance, Rolltech has succeeded in combining the best of its latest-generation spacer bars in stainless steel (Chromatech Plus) with a newly developed technology using plastic materials.
The new spacer bar Chromatech Ultra combines the lower stainless steel part and the upper part, in polycarbonate with a low moisture penetration index, in a single structure which ensures significant advantages in terms of thermal insulation. In fact, most of the energy consumed in the building industry is used for heating during the winter and cooling during the summer. But about 40% of the energy used to reach the desired temperature escapes from the doors and windows.
Chromatech Ultra improves the energy performance of buildings as a result of its remarkably low thermal transmittance coefficient (Psi value). Using the new Rolltech spacer bar in insulating glass systems (double or triple-glazed windows), with any type of framing, cuts the Psi value in half and thereby increases the building’s thermal barrier. A simple example clearly demonstrates the outstanding performance of this spacer bar: with aluminum casings, traditional spacer bars result in a Psi value of 0.111 W/mK, while Chromatech Ultra provides a Psi value of 0.051 W/mK, which can even be as low as 0.045 W/mK in triple-glazed systems. Using the Chromatech Ultra spacer bar thus provides an overall improvement of Uw = 0.1 – 0.2 W/m2K: a window that had Uw = 1.4 W/m2K will now have Uw = 1.3 – 1.2 W/m2K with Chromatech Ultra.
The market feedback is overwhelmingly positive. The patented design and the high stiffness of the frame combined with its easy bending make the new Rolltech spacer bar a highly-rated product. As a result of its remarkably low thermal transmittance value, the energy savings and consequent reduction in the emission of gases into the atmosphere are the main benefits of using Chromatech Ultra. Furthermore, significantly out-performing traditional aluminum spacer bars in terms of permeability, these innovative spacers significantly reduce the risk of humidity penetrating inside the window. The state-of-the-art design in different colors also makes this type of spacer bar a perfect solution for the aesthetic needs of architects and designers, providing the final user with a product which is attractive as well as functional.
Chromatech Ultra is also remarkably easy to use, which is an essential feature for the converters. In fact, these spacer bars are easy to bend even using traditional machines, producing perfect results with resistant, high-quality corners and a highly stiff frame thanks to its two-layer structure. The materials selected and used have been tested and approved according to standards EN 1279 part 2 and 3. Furthermore, Compatibility Tests have been carried out on all the raw materials used, in addition to the tests normally required in the different nations where the product is distributed. As part of its great success, Chromatech Ultra has been developed in four standard sizes: 10, 12, 16 and 20 mm. The entire range of sizes from 10 to 20 mm will be available on the market as early as Autumn 2009. The three standard colors of the entire range, Black – RAL 9004, Window Grey - RAL 7040 and Light Grey - RAL 7035, have passed a 500-hour accelerated UV aging test satisfying the strictest requirements.
