CertainTeed Corp. plans to add 29 new jobs and invest $2.7 million by the end of 2012 as part of an expansion of its building materials manufacturing operation in Roaring River, officials announced today.

Salaries will vary by job function, but the average annual wage for the new jobs will be $42,741, not including benefits, stated a press release from Gov. Bev Perdue's office. Wilkes County's average annual wage is $29,172.

To increase efficiency and reduce costs, CertainTeed will incorporate a paint line in the plant that has traditionally been done by third party vendors.

The company chose Wilkes County over a similar location in the Pacific Northwest, stated the press release.

The project was made possible in part by a $98,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund, the release stated. The One North Carolina Fund provides financial assistance through local governments to attract business projects that stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state.

Companies receive no money up front and must meet job creation and investment performance standards to qualify for grant funds. These grants also require and are contingent upon local matches.
