The Katy Police Department will have to wait a little longer to have bullet-proof glass installed on the side of the station that faces Franz Road. The safety measure was brought before the city council in March, and since then, the city has called for bids twice.
But the council voted to reject all the bids once again Monday night, after one contractor said an alternative to the specifications could save the city some money.
The city received three bids with the lowest submitted by M & M Glass in the amount of $112,664. However, the company had modified two of the three items by striking out “new frames” and substituting it with “N/A use existing frames.”
The second bidder was HouTex Glass in the amount of $150,722.71.
During the council meeting, M & M Glass representative Mike Murdock said a gasket adapter could be used on the current frame, saving the city $35,000 to $40,000 “unnecessarily.”
