Ltd., in Singapore for strategic coordination of AGC Group business throughout the Southeast Asia region this July.
Under the leadership of the Executive Officer and Chief Representative of AGC Group for Southeast Asia, AGC Asia Pacific will strategically coordinate and drive forward all AGC group business in the Southeast Asian region, including integrated solutions involving glass, electronics, chemicals and ceramics, to support the development of local infrastructure. The regional headquarters also will handle marketing analysis and sales of group products, aiming to contribute to regional societies with advanced products and services relating to people’s lives, environment, imaging, communications and energy.
“The strengthening of regional strategies is a key measure of our medium-term business plan “Grow Beyond-2015”, said AGC Group CEO Kazuhiko Ishimura. “By establishing the regional headquarters, we expect to accelerate business development in booming Southeast Asia, targeting a 30% increase in regional consolidated net sales between 2012 and 2015. We want to grow together with the Southeast Asian region.”
“We welcome AGC’s decision to locate its Southeast Asian regional headquarters in Singapore to coordinate its growth strategies for the region,” said Mr. Leo Yip, Chairman of the Singapore Economic Development Board. “As one of the world’s fastest growing markets, Southeast Asia presents strong demand for sustainable building and infrastructure solutions. We are also pleased that AGC is leveraging on Singapore as its regional control tower to develop integrated solutions for its customers, building on its core competencies in glass, chemicals and electronics.”
Since launching flat glass operations in Thailand in 1964, AGC has been developing glass, electronics, chemical and ceramics businesses in the region, including Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines. Currently, AGC operates 19 companies in Southeast Asia with a total workforce of approximately 9,000.
The Southeast Asian region comprising 10 ASEAN member countries holds 8.8 percent of the world’s population and accounts for 3.2 percent of the global economy, according to AGC estimations. The entire region is developing as an emerging economic region. Regional GDP is expected to roughly double through 2020, supported in part by the envisioned elimination of tariffs on regional trade and the creation of the ASEAN Community, both in 2015. Roads, railways, bridges, urban construction and other infrastructure is expected to be developed at a fast pitch in an overall market expansion across a variety of industrial sectors, raising the demand for advanced, comprehensive products and services that respond to local requirements for energy savings and environmental protection.
