Can someone direct me to documentation regarding installation recommendations in regard to retro-fit windows?
Specifically regarding:
1) the use of expanding foam as insulation
2) when to leave nail-on fin attached
3) shimming windows

Installations very with different windows and different structures. What kind of windows? Vinyl, Metal, Wood. What kind of structure? Brick, Wood frame. Are the windows custom made to size? If so the way they are measured dictates how they are installed. Stay away from spray foam insullation on retro fit window installs. It will cause to much pressure on the window and bind up the operation of the window. An expandable faom strip is available that works well.
