Depending on whether you are hand polishing or using a machine, you can use either. The biggest problem with both products is that you will have a hard time restoring the surface to "new" appearence. With pumice you can hand polish mineral deposits and sight surface damage. With Cerium, your results will be based on the grade of the abrasive, as well as the speed of the machine you use. With a drill and a pad you will be able to remove light damage. With a polishing system, such as SRP's, (www.srpglassrestoration.com), you can remove graffiti scratches from glass and leave the glass with perfect clarity and minimal distortion.

Pumice is defined as a light porous volcanic glass used especially for smoothing and polishing.

Cerium Oxide is a malleable metallic chemical compound.

So both are used in a polishing method. I know from experience that cerium oxide is what makes up glass by a certian percentage. Silica is the major percentage that makes up glass though.

Hope that answered yopur question
