I am doing a study on the market for PPG's self-cleaning glass. I would appreciate it if anyone had any information on the industry such as the position of possible competing products and the health of the industry. I am trying to determine the level of success that this new product could acheive in the near future. Thanks for all the help.
Reply to Andrew:Andrew. We are launching a new product in the next couple of weeks that is similar to activ self cleaning glass. It is a spray and is a glass sealant and cleaner in one. It is sprayed onto the glass in the normal way and seals it creating a protective barrier on the glass stopping any birdlime, general pollution and rain spots etc from bonding to the glass. It is hydrophobic so when rain hits the glass, it will form a bead and just run off.

There are number of different self-cleaning glass product available on the market today. All of the major glass manufacturing companies has already presented its product. (Pilkington, PPG, Saint-Gobain, etc.)
The consumption of glass as a material is constantly growing. Glass has become a very important construction material. As the consumption is growing also the glass industry sector is growing and innovating. It has reached a level where glass can be practically made custom to fit the specific application. The development in last 30 years has been enormous.
Hallo Mike,
You should be careful with "self clening" No produkt on the market is really self cleaning in the expectation of the Customer. No matter what you use you will perhaps increase the Cleaning cycle. But you still have to clean the Glass. It is better to speak of easy maintanance or easy to Clean
With respect to the Reply of Andrew: His Hydrophobic Coating has nothing to do with the the Hydrophilic effect of a TIO2 coating such as Pilkington Active or St. Gobain Bioclean.

There are definitely other self-cleaning glass products available on the market. For example, Pilkington was the first to introduce and sell self-cleaning glass. It introduced Activ Self-Cleaning Glass in North America in June 2001, and the first homeowner sale of windows with Pilkington Activ Glass was in August/September 2001. I believe the Freedonia Group has done research and forecast market potential for self-cleaning glass.
