In December we announced our ambitious re-development and modernisation plan, part of which includes the re-modelling of our Heritage Gallery to include a large, permanent exhibition which celebrates the Origins, Growth and Legacy of glass making in Sunderland.
We would like to involve the community in creating this exhibition, by asking you to contribute your personal stories about glass making. We are also appealing for people to donate interesting pieces of glassware that were made in the City, including Hartley Wood coloured glass and British Pyrex.
Sarah Rothwell, Exhibitions Officer for the National Glass Centre said: “This is an excellent opportunity for National Glass Centre to connect with the people of Sunderland. We want the local community to take ownership of the Centre and feel that it is a space for and about them and their heritage. We want to take advantage of the wealth of local knowledge on our doorstep, and these stories will give our new Heritage Gallery a personal touch.”
If you have a story or piece to contribute please contact Sarah Rothwell, Exhibitions Officer at National Glass Centre on 0191 515 5555 or email her at sarah.rothwell@sunderland.ac.uk.
