Tropicana's glass plant, which has been making bottles for the orange juice company since 1964, is getting ready to shut down.
Tropicana notified its employees of the closure more than a year ago. About 220 jobs are being eliminated. Tropicana has already notified the state of the pending job losses, indicating that its terminations will begin Feb. 28 and run through June 30. Tropicana's glass plant has gradually become obsolete as the Bradenton company shifted from glass bottles to cartons and plastic containers.
